Is your child going up to secondary school this week? Then you should feel pleased that the government ensures schools have to adhere to decent food standards for their main school meal. Brilliant – no more packed lunches to prepare then? Not quite. At least two secondary schools I’m aware of offer this main meal to students after 1:00. If your child hasn’t eaten since breakfast they will be unlikely to last this long and may well eat instead at the earlier food offering around 11:00. Unlike the main meal this one doesn’t need to conform to any standards at all and may well simply be pizza, sausage roll or doughnut based.
