Elderberry for Flu

Flu season is approaching with all the GP’s now offering flu jabs for those that are more susceptible. For those who aren’t, you might want to consider raiding the hedgerows this weekend for elderberries. In various medical studies these beautiful dark berries have being showing positive results against flu viruses including the H5N1 “bird flu”. As elderberry appears to be more useful for treatment once an infection has taken hold, rather than for prevention, turn your harvest into a cordial you can freeze and defrost when needed. If you survive the winter untouched by flu then use for summer cocktails instead…. Cheers
