Blueberries To Chill Out To
Most people know that to reduce high blood pressure reducing sodium intake is a good place to start. However a paper published this month Daily Blueberry Consumption Improves Blood Pressure has shown that blueberries may also help. Not only do blueberries contain an antioxidant called pterostilbene (believed to help prevent bowel cancer) but in addition they increase nitric oxide production. This decreases rigidity in blood vessels and consequently lowers blood pressure. This may be why they are also reputed to improve short-term memory loss, learning, concentration and enhance balance and co-ordination as blood flow is promoted to extremities and the brain.
Not bad for such a small berry.
