Artifical Sweeteners and Weight Gain

Another reason why artificial sweeteners may not be the answer to weight loss… A recent study has shown that sweeteners such as aspartame, saccharin or sucralose upset intestinal bacteria. This upset leads to metabolic changes and increases in blood sugar level and thus, increases in insulin production. High levels of insulin are linked to increased levels of fat deposition. In addition, the blood sugar level rises more from the artificial sweeteners than it would do from ordinary sugar, thus making you even fatter. How’s that for irony?
